City of Melville bylaws require that all businesses must have a business license to operate within City limits.

Business License: An application for a Business License can be obtained at the General Office of City Hall, or by download here.

There is a $25.00 fee required upon application.

Home Based Business License applications are subject to Zoning Regulations and may be subject to approval by City Council.

Farmers Markets, Trade Shows & Events: An application for a Trade Show / Event Business License can be obtained at the General Office of City Hall, or by download here.

Development, Building & Demolition Permits

Development Permits are required for all construction, renovations and installment projects, with a permit fee of $25. Tree planting and removal also require Development Permits but are issued free of charge, no fees required.

Building Permits are required and accompany Development Permits when;

Before a Permit can be issued, all applications must include a site plan and construction drawings. A site plan consists of an aerial drawing of the property to scale, oriented North, including all buildings, structures, property line setbacks, driveway accesses, utility lines and other applicable details. Construction drawings and Building Permit fees required for your permit will depend on the type of work, please inquire with Planning Services for more information, or see the fee schedule outline in our Building Bylaw above.

Please be advised Development & Building Permits take 7-10 business days to be approved.

Building permits expire after 6 months from the date of issue but may be renewed for a further 6 months without fee. It is the responsibility of the owner to locate all utility lines and easements with Sask 1st Call. Check with ISC (Information Services Corporation, formerly known as Land Titles) and your utility companies.
